Welcome to Almost Fit Grandma

I’m a recently retired grandmother exploring what it means to stay active and healthy. This blog is where I share my personal research, runs, and everyday efforts to live somewhere between ‘committed’ and ‘doing my best.’

Please note: I share my research and personal experience for informational purposes only. I am not a medical professional, and this content is not intended as medical advice.

My Story

I’m a mid‑60s, recently retired grandma who has turned health and fitness into a major hobby. I’ve browsed the senior fitness world, and let’s be honest: some of those folks are fit‑fit. I admire them, but I’m not trying to become them. I live somewhere between “committed” and “doing my best,” and that’s the version you’ll find here.

I’m a semi‑serious runner — I train for events, but only the low‑key local ones where you get an orange at the finish line — and I do my best to keep up with strength training, nutrition, and whatever “healthy aging” is supposed to mean this week.

Before retirement, I worked as a biostatistician, which means I still can’t resist digging into the actual research when a health claim pops up in the news. I like to see what the data really says, translate it into plain English, and figure out how (or if) it fits into my own life.

I like to share the interesting things I uncover and document my own imperfect, ongoing experiment in staying healthy as I age. I’m not an expert, not a coach, and definitely not a guru — just a curious grandma learning out loud.
